Elementary & Intermediate

Drawing exams are important for those who are interested in pursuing a career in the arts. They can help assess the basic drawing skills of a student and determine if they have the potential to excel in the field of art. These exams are usually conducted in two levels – Elementary and Intermediate. Elementary Drawing exams evaluate basic drawing skills such as shape, form, contrast and shading, while Intermediate Drawing exams are more advanced and require more complex skills

The elementary and intermediate grade examinations were instituted in the year 1880 by the Art Directorate of the Government of Maharashtra. It began with eighteen students for the first ever examination, and this has grown to around two lakh students who appear for this examination every year. These exams are designed to evaluate a student’s ability to draw from observation and from memory, as well as their understanding of light and shade, perspective, composition and so on. Moreover, the exams are conducted in a way that assesses a student’s creative and artistic abilities.
